Kimi’s 5-Bullet Aloha Friday (Last One of 2017!)

Happy December! New month and almost the end of another year. With all the holiday happenings, Best Life Ever business shifts and growth we’ve been focused on, our Shift to Rise retreat, and #allthethings, I have really been feeling the need to get centered.

Listening to this calling, I declared today, “Get Yo’ Shit Together Friday” and did a total brain dump (using Trello of course!) and a deep calendar review.

When I start feeling overwhelmed and my ego starts in with that old limiting belief, “I don’t have enough time”, instead of hustling HARDER like I used to, I now work on SLOWING DOWN. I create white space by clearing my calendar (that meant saying NO to a few things today), turning off notifications, and then I ask myself some simple questions like:

  • What’s REALLY bothering me?
  • What is most urgent/important?
  • How can I make my life easier?
  • How can I get ahead/hook up my future self (HUMFS)?
  • What does my spirit need most right now?
  • How can I create more ease, joy, fun, and FREEDOM in my life?
  • And probably the most important question – What can I say NO to?

Your ego will try to tell you that you don’t have time to slow down, but your spirit will speak to you when you do, and life will become much more clear.

Less hustle, more alignment. 

One of the things I’m cutting back on for the rest of this year is certain forms of tech and communication, which is why this will be my last post until sometime in new year! I’lll be dropping back in once the dust settles after the holidays, but you can always follow me on Instagram, our Best Life Ever Tribe on FB and our BLE IG, etc.

5 things I’m loving/excited about:

  • Holidays Made Easy with Trello – You guys know about my love for Trello! I’m super pumped this year to be using Trello to get organized for the holidays. Check out this Holiday Gift Shopping from Trello for inspiration on how to use this cool free tool to get more organized than ever.
  • What I’m Reading – Super Accelerated Living by Bentinho Massaro. The ebook is available for free if you have Kindle Unlimited (so awesome!)
  • Best Investment Under $15 – I just recently upgraded my $9.99/month Spotify account to a Spotify Family account. This means that up to 5 people under one roof can have their own premium accounts for one monthly charge of $14.99! My family is so stoked and now we don’t fight over who gets to listen to music or get annoyed by other people’s playlists cluttering things up.
  • What I’m Proud of – I made it to 100 days in Shannon Algeo’s #GratefulUnicorn 100 Day Challenge and I’ve decided to keep going! This group and practice has totally transformed my life.   • What I’ve been eating – Beef stew! It’s been cozier weather here in the islands with a little more rain and temperatures cooling just a bit. Perfect weather for grassfed beef stew! I’ve been throwing everything in the crock pot in the morning and coming home to warm, delicious stew and rice! Here’s a recipe I loosely follow (I switch all the ingredients to organic and skip the regular flour).

STILL the Most Important Thing I Do Every Sunday

img_5944Here it is, Sunday morning…and guess what I’m doing. Yup, the same thing I’ve been doing for years – weekly planning. I was looking back at my old blog posts and found this one called “The Most Important Thing I do Every Sunday” that I posted in June of 2014. It brought tears to my eyes. I couldn’t have imagined that just over 2 years later I’d have the best, most badass business partner in the world and that we would be launching our own Best Life Ever Weekly Planner.

I can tell you this. There would be no Best Life Ever Weekly Planner available for pre-order right now if it wasn’t for 3 things:

1 – Weekly Planning. We were able to create, design, and fine-tune this planner because we’ve been using this system every freakin’ week for years. Not only do Pua and I do this process on our own, we do it as a company every week. There is a reason that one of the prompts in our planner each week says, “I will take BOLD ACTION towards my big vision this week by…” We have a planner, a podcast, blogs, coaching clients, the life and business that we have because we took ACTION.

Extraordinary July Challenge

I don’t know about you, but I’ve been feeling a little out of sorts lately. I’m gonna go ahead and blame Mercury Retrograde which has taken up most of this past month, June 7th to July 2nd to be exact. Needless to say, it’s been a sort of frustrating, and mildly uncomfortable, month with communication and schedule challenges, kids getting sick, misunderstandings, and a general feeling of malaise around our house. It’s also been a reflective month, however, and I feel like all the frustration, discomfort, and THINKING was necessary to get clarity on what I want and what I need. Just like soon-to-be butterflies HAVE to struggle inside their chrysalises in order to build up enough strength in their wings to fly, we NEED periods of constriction and reflection to help us expand to new levels of awesomeness.

I am definitely ready to expand in July and am feeling pumped to make the most of these lovely summer days, since I already feel the more hectic Fall/Winter seasons looming in the not-so-distant future. In order to milk this month for all it’s worth and get out of the rut I have been in this past month, I’m challenging myself to do one thing new, different, and/or out-of-the-ordinary, everyday in July. This might be something I’ve always wanted to do, something I’ve never thought of doing, or something I used to do and love, but, for whatever reason, have stopped doing. I’m going to double the impact by pairing this with a daily gratitude practice to retrain my brain to see all the extraordinary blessings I have to be thankful for, since this past month I have definitely gotten in the habit of zero-ing in on what’s NOT working in my life.

Want to join me for this #ExtraordinaryJuly Challenge? Get a fresh new journal or notebook and keep it with you all month. Everyday, write down:

  1. One new or different thing that you do each day as well as ideas for other new things you can try this month (and beyond). These could be big (jumping out of a plane) or small (shopped at a new grocery store).
  2. Three things you are grateful for each day. Make them as specific as possible: that delicious cup of coffee, your puppy’s breath, your paycheck that helped you pay those bills, those bills for the service or product you got and could pay for, that feeling after a workout, your friend who texted you that funny thing just because…you get the idea.

4 Powerful Ways to Make Your June Amazing

It’s the start of a new week, a new month, and Summer is in the air – can you feel it? It’s the perfect time to spend some quiet time DESIGNING your month ahead. Here are four ways you can make the most out of any month:

  1. Take Inventory of Your Month – Review your whole calendar to avoid any surprises. Look for upcoming events, birthdays, bills, deadlines, schedule changes, etc. Add any tasks tied to these calendar items to whatever your task management system is (I’m a devoted Simpleology “black belt” user), or create a new “My Amazing June” list on paper or even better, create it in Evernote, another one of my top favorite applications. Do you have to get a Father’s Day gift or make reservations? Do you now realize that you need to find childcare for a certain night? Do you need to send a card to a friend to wish her happy birthday? Don’t forget to check your Facebook for any birthdays or other invites that are hiding in your “upcoming events” section. Taking inventory of our calendar gives us the ability to design our month with awareness instead of living in a blur of little “oh s@%#” moments.
  2. Plan Your Workouts and Self-Care – Just like you schedule your work and family responsibilities, put your workouts for the month (or at least this week, with a note to schedule your workouts every Sunday) in your calendar. Also, look for space in your calendar to schedule something that will nourish you each week – something that you REALLY WANT to do that makes you FEEL GOOD. It could be massage, acupuncture, beauty treatments, dinner with your besties, date night, beach time, reading time, meditation, a new class you’ve been wanting to try, whatever fills you up and makes your heart sing. Treat these like appointments with your most important client because frankly, that’s exactly what they are.
  3. Eat Some Frogs – Brian Tracy’s book, Eat That Frog, is based on an old saying that if the first thing you do in the morning is eat a live frog, you’ll enjoy the relief, satisfaction, and empowerment of knowing that hopefully the worst part of your day is over and you can handle anything else that comes your way. He uses this as a metaphor for getting those unpleasant, big, or nagging tasks done first before filling your day with the stuff you don’t mind as much. Avoiding your frog breakfast day after day doesn’t make the frogs go away, it just means that you’ll have a giant frog smorgasbord to deal with sooner or later. This month, commit to eating some of those frogs that have been on your list for weeks, months, or years. Clean out that closet. Get that check-up. Clear out that inbox. File those documents. Balance that checkbook. Call that relative. Or get someone else to do it for you (see #4 below).
  4. Discover Your Zone of Genius – It’s easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of life, spinning from one obligation to the next, doing what we do (because we’ve always done it). We can lose months, even years, filling our days with “shoulds” and “have tos”, living a painful (or heartbreakingly comfortable) life of wasted potential and mediocrity. We tell ourselves that we’ll get to the big, awesome stuff that lights our fire LATER, when things “settle down”, but that day never seems to come and pretty soon it’s a new month or new year and we’re not sure where the time has gone.This month, commit to asking yourself how much of your time you currently spend in what Gay Hendricks calls your “Zone of Genius”. This is the place where the things you love to do and the things you’re good at come together in a beautiful flowing symphony of joy, love, fire, and inspiration. It’s that stuff that doesn’t feel like work, the time-bending stuff that makes you come alive and inspires others to come alive as they witness you operating in this zone.In his book, The Big Leap, Hendricks talks about how much time even the most successful people spend in three other zones that prevent us from living a life of true fulfilment and joy:
  • The Zone of Incompetence: Where we spend way too many hours trying to do things that just aren’t our thing and we have no desire to master (ever spend 4 hours trying to research and fix your iPhone and then a Genius Bar employee at the Apple Store fixes in 2 minutes?).
  • The Zone of Competence: Where we fill our time with those things that we are able to do, but that we could easily outsource, automate, or pay or trade someone else to do. For more on this I highly recommend reading, Less Doing More Living by Ari Meisel.
  • The Zone of Excellence: Perhaps the most seductive zone where we are doing what we are really great at, but something is missing. We get lots of positive feedback in this zone from our bosses, co-workers, clients, friends, family, and our ego. We are comfortable here, but our spirit knows that we are destined for something more.

For the month of June, make a commitment to becoming aware of how you fill your calendar and in which zones you spend the majority of your time. Ask yourself as you go about your day if you could outsource, delegate, or shift in such a way that you could spend more (if not all) of your time in your Zone of Genius. Pick up Hendrick’s book or download it the Audible.com version, and make June the month you begin your Big Leap!
