Kimi’s 5-Bullet Aloha Friday (Last One of 2017!)

Happy December! New month and almost the end of another year. With all the holiday happenings, Best Life Ever business shifts and growth we’ve been focused on, our Shift to Rise retreat, and #allthethings, I have really been feeling the need to get centered.

Listening to this calling, I declared today, “Get Yo’ Shit Together Friday” and did a total brain dump (using Trello of course!) and a deep calendar review.

When I start feeling overwhelmed and my ego starts in with that old limiting belief, “I don’t have enough time”, instead of hustling HARDER like I used to, I now work on SLOWING DOWN. I create white space by clearing my calendar (that meant saying NO to a few things today), turning off notifications, and then I ask myself some simple questions like:

  • What’s REALLY bothering me?
  • What is most urgent/important?
  • How can I make my life easier?
  • How can I get ahead/hook up my future self (HUMFS)?
  • What does my spirit need most right now?
  • How can I create more ease, joy, fun, and FREEDOM in my life?
  • And probably the most important question – What can I say NO to?

Your ego will try to tell you that you don’t have time to slow down, but your spirit will speak to you when you do, and life will become much more clear.

Less hustle, more alignment.

One of the things I’m cutting back on for the rest of this year is certain forms of tech and communication, which is why this will be my last post until sometime in new year! I’lll be dropping back in once the dust settles after the holidays, but you can always follow me on Instagram, our Best Life Ever Tribe on FB and our BLE IG, etc.

OK, so here we go – our last 5-bullet Aloha Friday round-up of 2017!

5 things I’m loving/excited about:

Have a wonderful holiday season! I encourage you to create some time to slow down and ask yourself some quality questions that will improve your quality of life and bring you some well-deserved peace and joy as we move into 2018! Cheers and GINORMOUS hugs!

5-Bullet Aloha Friday

Happy Aloha Friday! And Happy November! Anyone feeling “busy”? After all, ’tis the season..of busyness. When I work with clients who are feeling “crazy busy” this time of year, one of the first things we look at is whether this is Chronic Busyness or Seasonal Busyness. I wrote a Best Life Ever blog post awhile back about understanding the difference between these two types of busyness because it’s such an important distinction to make. If you’re experiencing a little seasonal busyness as you gear up for the holidays, be easy on yourself and read up on a few strategies that you can use to lighten your load over the next few months 😉

And now for 5 things I’ve been enjoying and pondering:

  • What I’m buzzzzzzing about – BLE Buzz enrollment is open right now through 11/15/17! Life is too damn short to suffer through the week feeling overwhelmed, tired, and unproductive. We designed the Buzz to help people to reclaim their time, energy, relationships, and joy while they continue to CRUSH IT at work and in life. Give yourself the best Christmas gift EVER & join us for weekly live training calls, a membership site full of recordings, exercises, & resources, and unlimited support from me, Pua, and a community of badass buzzers living their Best Life Ever! There is a 7 day free trial, but I have a gift for you! Use the code BUZZFREEMONTH and get a whole month free! See you in the Buzz! bestlifeever.buzz/blebuzz
  • What else I’m excited about – Our Shift to Rise retreat is really coming to life. Check out this FREE training, “How to Get Unstuck”, from our Shift Team! We have another Shift webinar coming up next Thursday on “How to do a life inventory” and we’re announcing $4444 worth of bonuses for this retreat including a special dinner with us Shift leaders and an extra night of stay! Find out more and join our mailing list at www.shifttorise.com by simply clicking to apply (you can choose to apply now or later, but there only 5 bonus packages available through 11/15, so action-takers will be rewarded abundantly!)
  • App I’m loving   Yummly. This app is the best thing ever for meal prep and grocery shopping! Search and save your favorite recipes from the interwebs, search based on ingredients on-hand and dietary preferences, make shopping lists, and even schedule when you want to prepare things!
  • What I’ve been drinking lately – Dirty Chais from Brue Bar. Chai + espresso tastes like gingerbread and feels like productivity!
  • My new favorite nighttime ritual –  Wonderfluff from Acure. I’m obsessed with this affordable, organic, overnight hydrating face mask/cream. Plus I love the quirky language on the tube: “You want some serious winkle fighting, you got it! Yes, we said ‘winkle fighting’. Winkle’s are the magical elves who sneak in at night and try to steal your pretty.”

Wishing you a wonderful weekend!!!!!!!!

P.S. Are you ready to really begin transforming your life? Let’s talk

Ask Yourself This Question to Bring More Mindfulness to Your Time + Energy

Kimi’s 5-Bullet Friday

Happy Aloha Friday! It’s been another full week of stretching, learning new tech tools, growing our business, and coaching clients. With a very full schedule, I’ve been extra mindful to stop and ask myself one of my favorite questions for managing my time + energy: “Is this a good use of my time?” This simple question is a powerful hack for snapping yourself out of Facebook rabbit holes, silly low-level tasks, and those ego-driven moments of trying to figure something out on your own when you could just ask someone who knows (hello, tech support). Give it a try! As you go about your daily tasks, set a timer to periodically ask yourself, “is this a good use of my time?” The answer may be YES, it may be NO, but the real power is not in the answer, but rather the habit you’re creating of bringing mindfulness to how you’re spending your precious time and energy!

And now for 5 things I’ve been enjoying and pondering:

  • What I’ve been talking a lot about lately – Weekly Planning. This is one of the most impactful habits I have and something we recommend to all of our clients. Weekly planning is so powerful and it’s a great tool not just for individuals, but for partners, teams, and families. Check out our podcast episode about this!
  • What I’ve added to my wellness routine – Awaken.yoga. Online yoga + meditation classes created by my friend Shannon and 2 other awesome yogis. I’m obsessed! Great routines to start your day, to restore mid-day, or to add to your evening routine. Embody your body and tune in to your highest self!
  • Quote I’m pondering – “If we don’t change what isn’t working in our lives, we will continually have the same day over and over again.” – Daily Om
  • Podcast I’m loving  Kwik Brain. I love this podcast from Jim Kwik!!! Bite site brain hacks for busy people who want to learn faster and achieve more. So good!
  • What I’ve been eating – Super easy quinoa chili. I made a version of this with kidney beans instead and just cooked it on the stove. Super simple, delicious, and great for cozy nights and the leftovers are great for lunches. Top it with organic sour cream, avocado, fresh herbs, and tortilla chips! Yum!

Wishing you a wonderful weekend. I currently have just 1 spot available for one-on-one coaching. I’m holding space for the PERFECT client: a fun, high-performer ready for deep accountability and support to reach their goals. Someone ready to master productivity, time + energy management so that they can serve at the highest level. Someone ready to take things to the next level physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually in this last quarter of 2017.

If this is you or someone you know, let’s talk!

P.S. Shift to Rise! Early bird rates for our Shift to Rise retreat are open until the end of November & room reservations are first come, first served! If you feel even a little pull to find out more, apply today! Your application is an invitation to a conversation with us. It is neither a commitment to attend nor does it guarantee you a spot at our event. It’s an opportunity for us to get to know you and hear more about your goals, as well as a chance for you to ask us any questions you have about the retreat. We’re so excited!

My 2016 Holiday Gift Guide

2016Holiday GiftGuide.png

The best gifts have the most meaning, they surprise and delight people, and they don’t have to break the bank. As we dance through the season of giving, here is my top 5 list of high vibration, thoughtful gift ideas from people and companies that make my heart sing.

1 – Gift Certificate from Aloha Kitchen Goddess

My client, personal chef, and past life Gypsy partner-in-crime,  Fortuna, has found her unique brilliance. She takes comfort food, makes it healthy (or not, whatever floats your boat), and prepares it with love, so you don’t have to. I’m not sure how she does it, but somehow she goes into our brains each week and knows exactly what we want to eat, even if we’re not sure. I actually love to cook, but when life is full with podcast interviews, coaching, writing, and mom-duty, I confess I resort to frozen pizza more often than you’d think.

With Fortuna, your menu each week will be customized to your tastebuds and dietary goals. She can also coach you and do in-home cooking classes so that you can learn to do what she does on your own. This is the ultimate gift for a new mom, a parent, a family, or yourself (rock those 2017 health goals)! She’s got some holiday specials happening now, visit her website to find out more.

2 – Lularoe Leggings from Lularoe Luana

Before I started working with my client, Luana, I HAD NO IDEA…no idea how freakin’ crazy people are for these leggings. Like, seriously. It’s INSANE. But Luana knew, and over the past few months, this beautiful bosslady has built a booming empire that would blow your mind. Not only did Luana have the foresight to see the potential of her Lularoe business (which by the way, also has adorable shirts and dresses, mens’ shirts, and little girls’ sizes too), she also sought out my services BEFORE she launched to help her with some of the technology, social media, and business-building logistics, but more importantly, to make sure that she built a business that didn’t completely consume her. Luana has always been very clear that her family and her health are the most important things to her. She works hard to prioritize her workouts, say NO to things to create more time for her family, and set boundaries in a culture where the underground tagline is “stressed, blessed, and Lularoe obsessed.” I’m so proud of her!

Luana is all heart, she loves what she does, and I guarantee your loved ones will freak out if they find Lularoe under the tree this year. You can search for her on Facebook or message me for more info. But if you’re like the rest of the Lularoe obsessed, you’ll find her.

3 – Hawaiian Fight Gear

Oh, how I love to punch and kick things. And Pua and I swear that our business partnership is so smooth because we frequently roll around on the ground trying to choke each other. Come to think of it, that’s probably the secret to my relationship with Joey too. We are so blessed to teach and train at Egan’s Training Center, where we can release pent up emotions and energy in a socially appropriate manner. I invite you to join us – two bonus gift ideas: Private lessons with Joey (Message me for more info) and/or a Gift Certificate for Egan’s Training Center would be amazing presents for yourself or someone special on your list!

For all your kickboxing, jiu jitsu, and MMA needs, Hawaiian Fight Gear is a one-stop shop. The owners of this locally based company, Andy and Heidi Taam, are AMAZING. They are the kindest, cutest couple ever with the coolest kids (and the raddest dog ever named George). Pick up a pair of MMA gloves or boxing gloves for your loved ones (some of you better grab some headgear for yourself first).

4 – Lashes by Jacque Rojas Salon

Wanna know my secret for looking awake teaching 5am MMA Bootcamp on Wednesdays? Fake lashes. I’m not kidding you, when I’m overdue for a refill (usually after too many weeks of jiu jitsu) it never fails that someone will say I look tired. OK, first of all, NEVER tell someone they look tired. If they are tired, they know, and if they look tired, they don’t want to know!

Jacque helps me look NOT TIRED and feel amazing. She is the real deal and a badass entrepreneur, always looking for ways to learn and grow. She does hair, makeup, brows, and more. I know I don’t NEED lashes to be pretty or look awake for anyone, but it’s a FUN treat that makes me feel fabulous and how you FEEL is what it’s all about. This is a great gift for you or someone you know that could use a little dose of self-empowerment and self-care.

5 – Acupuncture and Massage Treatment from Donna Rapadas

I’ve been seeing Donna for over 15 years. She does a combination of acupuncture, massage, and stretching. It’s SO AWESOME. She cured my asthma, got me pregnant (that sounded weird, but you know what I mean), healed my injuries, cleared up my skin, and reduced my stress. Just yesterday I went to see her and told her about some hand pain I’ve been dealing with for months (probably due to the kickboxing and jiu jitsu), and I swear, I woke up this morning PAIN-FREE. It’s like a freakin’ Christmas miracle.

Donna has treated my friends and family for frozen shoulder, vertigo, allergies, eczema, arthritis, workout injuries, hormonal imbalances, the list is endless. If you’re scared of needles (you really can’t even feel them), she can do acupressure and massage. Donna is a Crossfit athlete so she is very familiar with sports-related issues and injuries. She is also an accomplished fencer – how poetic is that? A fencing acupuncturist. That just makes me happy. This is the perfect gift for anyone in any kind of pain. Message me and I’ll pass her number on to you.

*6 – Best Life Ever Weekly Planner and Swag and Happiness U Gift Certificates

I know I said Top 5, but I can’t help but include a few more PERFECT GIFTS! This Sunday, Pua and I are SO EXCITED to be leading a workshop to help you create a BIG VISION for your epic 2017. Join us this Sunday Dec. 11th at 12:30pm for our Best Year Ever Big Vision Class at Happiness U’s NEW location in SALT, Kaka’ako. Check out yourhappinessu.com for registration & info. They also have Happiness U gift certificates available – who doesn’t want the gift of Happiness?!

Come a little early at 11:30 for our Best Life Ever Pop-Up Shop where we will have our new Best Life Ever Weekly Planners and lots of Best Life Ever gear (hats, tanks, and tees for men and women!).

*7 – Success Coaching with Pua, Kimi, or both of us!

OK, last one (although even as I’m writing, I’m thinking of so many more!). Don’t forget that both Pua and I do individual success coaching and corporate workshops and NOW is the time to book for the New Year!

High-level coaching with my coach, colleague, and friend Hang Boge (another great gift) is what gave me the focus, inspiration, and accountability to launch my own coaching business and co-create Best Life Ever with joy, authenticity, and work+life integration. And I’m so blessed that I get to work everyday now with the amazingly intuitive and insightful Pua as my partner and in-house coach.

If you are ready to live bigger, is virtually impossible not to grow and expand with a committed coach in your corner. I want 2017 to be your best year yet. If you are highly motivated and committed to getting focused, inspired, being held accountable, and having lots of FUN along the way, then coaching is the ultimate gift you could give yourself.

If you want to get started in January, the deadline to apply for coaching with me is December 15th. We’ll start with a short, fun conversation about what you want to create in your life. If, and only if, you decide that you want to work me, and if it feels like it’s a good fit to both of us, I have a variety of packages to fit your needs and some cool holiday bonuses which I will tell you all about with full transparency, no pressure, and no hidden fees. Book here

Wishing you the Best Holidays EVER! This season, and every season, I encourage you to support the local heart-based entrepreneurs following their dreams and living their Best Life Ever.

The Insanity Loop: 3 Steps to Getting Unstuck

https://www.flickr.com/photos/wantmorepuppies/

Photo credit: Pup Fan, Creative Commons

Have you ever been stuck in a cycle of wanting to change something, trying to change, not being able to change, thinking there is something wrong with you, trying harder to change, getting mad that you can’t, trying again, getting frustrated, beating yourself up for your lack of willpower, and then trying again only to continue to “fail”? Maybe you talk about how you haven’t been able to do something no matter how hard you try, but this time you’ll just try harder in the hopes that something will be different this time around. I’ve been talking to a lot of people about this phenomenon lately and have been wrestling with this myself, frankly. This is what I call, “The Insanity Loop”, based on Einstein’s definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. The fact is that we often needlessly drive ourselves insane by using all of our energy to work HARDER instead of SMARTER.At Egan’s Training Center, we are always being reminded in jiu jitsu training, that the focus is on using your individual strengths, correct positioning, and leverage. This is especially important if your opponent is bigger or stronger than you. Instead of trying desperately, again and again, to outpower someone, a simple shift in position and mindset can save you tons of energy and create the opportunity to use their force to your advantage.

If you find yourself stuck in The Insanity Loop, expending lots of energy trying to outpower (or out-willpower) something you are up against, here are 3 steps you can use to help break the cycle and get unstuck:

1 – Know Yourself. The first step is coming to terms with you who are and what your strengths and weaknesses are. Take some time to really examine the chronic issues, habits, or behaviors that are getting in the way of your success. The key here is do this without judgement. Do you hit your snooze button 50 times every morning? Righteous! Do you find it impossible to say no to red wine/hot bread/chocolate chip cookies? Yum! That’s just who you are, baby. Do you love writing blog posts, but don’t schedule time for it and then scramble to get them done? Yup, that’s me! It’s all good. The first step is awareness and acceptance. Write down on a piece of paper what you want and then what you do to sabotage yourself. Then have a good laugh about it. We all have our shit and that’s what makes us special and awesome. And keep in mind, who we are and what we want is always changing and evolving, so finding the time to do this type of self-reflection on a regular basis is part of living a life by design.

2 – Hack Your Environment and Shift Your Position. The bottom line is that it is a heck of a lot easier to change our environment or our positioning than it is to change our personality or behaviors. Take a look at that piece of paper again and think of ways that you can “hack your environment” to support your goals. If you snooze your alarm clock so many times you constantly miss your morning workouts, instead of beating yourself for being unable to get up, move your alarm clock across the room so you have to get up and turn it off. Or get a dog that wakes you up because he has to pee or a cat that slaps your face every morning with a furry paw because she’s hungry. Or perhaps you can “shift your position” to work with who you are, and not against it, by switching to afternoon workouts. Remember, when nothing goes right, go left.

We can also use technology to hack our environment and create external reminders and pressure to help us shift. Whatever it is that you are trying to achieve, put reminders on your phone to get to the gym, or log your food, or call your mom. Use a tool like Resnooze to send email reminders to your inbox, hire someone on Fiverr for $5 to call you everyday for a month to ask you if you are staying on track. We have endless tools at our fingertips – use them to make it impossible to forget what you are trying to achieve.

3 – Put Accountability to Work. Accountability is our best friend when breaking out of The Insanity Loop and creating new habits. Accountability can come in many forms, but the main idea is to share with one person, or many, about what you are trying to achieve so that it matters in some way whether you do it or not. You can tell your best friend, your family, share it on Facebook, join a community of like-minded individuals, make a bet with someone, create a mastermind group, etc. The whole point is that more than likely, you have been trying to change in a bubble with no real external consequences. Use accountability to up the ante and the more it scares you the better! If being held accountable for something makes your palms sweat and gives you those little nervous butterflies in your stomach, that means your dreams are big and the stakes are high and that is a recipe for success!

You may want to consider doing these exercises and brainstorming with a friend, or friends, someone who can help you get creative and think of out-of-the-box solutions to your challenges since it is often difficult for us to see clearly when we’re stuck in the muck of insanity. I’d love to hear all about the creative ways that you break out of The Insanity Loop! Please share in the comments and inspire others.

If you’re looking for another way to get unstuck when it comes to health, fitness, and nutrition, please join me this Saturday, August 16th, for my “Healthy Body, Happy Life” class. This is the last one of this series that I will be teaching at Happiness U this year, so if you’ve been thinking about it, I hope you can join us for this final class. I love teaching this class and have so much to share! Please register to reserve your spot.
